About the role
Mater is seeking a Boiler Attendant / Engine Driver to join the team at South Brisbane on a permanent full-time basis. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the daily operations of the Mater complex by ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the boiler and associated plant.

Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will help maintain critical infrastructure that supports hospital services, ensuring steam output meets operational demand while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Salary range: $35.23 - $36.53 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working a rotating roster including day, afternoon, and night shifts
  • Communicating effectively with the Mechanical Trades Manager, Fitters Trade Coordinator, and relevant team members regarding operational activities and issues
  • Monitoring and maintaining stock levels, including coal supplies, as required
  • Applying technical knowledge and skills to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the boiler and associated plant equipment in line with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborating with boiler house team members and other trades to ensure the reliable operation of plant and services
  • Performing duties in a manner that prioritises the safety of patients, visitors, and staff, while maintaining service access wherever possible
  • Assisting with the cleaning and upkeep of the boiler house and associated equipment to maintain a safe working environment
  • Accurately completing documentation, including log sheets, timesheets, and system records
  • Complying with all directions provided by the Mechanical Trades Manager or delegate
  • Adhering to Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity, and anti-discrimination policies
  • Demonstrating ongoing commitment to Mater Health safety policies, procedures, and training requirements
  • Participating in overtime when required

About you
You will ideally bring:

  • A current Standard Boiler (BS) Operating Licence
  • Demonstrated experience operating a coal-fired boiler and associated plant
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare legislation relevant to engineering environments

Desirable but not essential:

  • Competency in Low Voltage / Switchboard Rescue
  • CPR certification
