Mater Mothers Hospital is a premier women’s health facility and Queensland’s largest maternity care provider; serving as a referral centre for complicated obstetric and MFM cases. Mater Health is also the state’s largest provider of publically funded gynaecology services.

 

We are pleased to be able to offer a number of 12-month Advanced Training positions commencing February 2021.  These positions cover a variety of roles including: Senior Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Advanced training post in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology,  Advanced training post with a Gynae-Oncology focus, Advanced training post with a Specialist Gynaecology focus and  Advanced training position with a focus in the Flying O&G (FOG) service.

 

We are seeking talented and enthusiastic Level 5/6 Registrars who are looking to build upon their skills in either: general gynaecology and tertiary obstetrics or who wish to develop a more specialised skill set in the aforementioned areas.  Mater Mothers Hospitals have a dynamic education, audit and research program and successful applicants will be expected to be actively involved in these activities. There will also be an opportunity for interested registrars to participate in the Mater Flying O&G Service, comprising week-long gynaecology-focussed rotations to rural and regional Queensland.  Candidates who are short listed will be given the opportunity to rank their preference of roles.

Advanced O&G Training Post: Senior Registrar (2 positions)

 

Description:  It is envisaged that these positions will be ideal preparation for future independent Specialist practice, and would suit Senior Registrars intending to pursue a career in general obstetrics and gynaecology.  The role offers excellent experience in tertiary level antenatal and intrapartum care, training in general gynaecology and advanced endoscopy, including supervised and independent operating lists.  Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to work as a junior Consultant supervising Registrars and RMOs in addition to independent outpatient sessions, theatre lists and protected time for involvement in Australia’s only Simulation Curriculum in laparoscopic surgery.  The role provides exposure to tertiary level sub-speciality areas of practice, including advanced endoscopic surgery and adolescent gynaecology. The successful applicant will take on a key clinical governance role in the Unit, and be expected to be actively involved in the unit’s education, audit, risk management, administrative and research activities.

 

The successful applicant may wish to undertake the Colposcopy ATM, Hysteroscopy/Laparoscopy ATM and/or Essential Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Skills ATM. 

 

Level 6 trainees (who have completed both written and oral examination) are encouraged to apply.

 

Advanced O&G Training Post with Specialist Gynaecological Focus

 

Description: This role is ideally suited to trainees wishing to enhance their skills in ambulatory gynaecological procedures, complex gynaecological surgery and the management of intrapartum high-risk obstetrics.  We have established this position, recognising the increasing expectations of the generalist O&G to have a high level of general and laparoscopic gynaecological surgical skills and limited opportunities for advanced trainees to develop these skills outside of subspecialty training. 

 

The role comprises a minimum of 20 weeks in general gynaecology, including: colposcopy, ambulatory gynaecology, general gynaecology theatre and fertility assessment. The position will also include exposure to tertiary-level obstetrics.

 

This Advanced Training Post would ideally suit a Senior Registrar intending to pursue a career in general obstetrics and gynaecology, and is specifically targeted at Level 5/6 trainees. The successful applicant may wish to undertake the Generalist Gynaecology ATM, the Colposcopy ATM and/or Hysteroscopy/Laparoscopy ATM.

Advanced O&G Training Post with Gynae-Oncology Focus

 

Description: This role is ideal for trainees wishing to build upon their skills in complex gynaecological surgery while continuing to advance their high-risk obstetrics and intrapartum management skills. The Mater recognises the increasing expectations of the generalist O&G to have a high level of laparoscopic gynaecological surgical skills and limited opportunities for advanced trainees to develop these skills outside of subspecialty training.  The role will include a minimum of 20 weeks working in the Mater gynaecological oncology service. The remainder of training will be spent in general obstetrics, tertiary-level intrapartum care, and general gynaecology.

 

This Advanced Training Post would suit a Senior Registrar intending to pursue a career in general obstetrics and gynaecology, or those considering further subspecialty training in gynaecology-oncology or advanced endoscopy.  The successful applicant may wish to undertake the Generalist Gynaecology ATM and the Essential Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Skills ATM.

Advanced O&G Training Post with a Flying O&G Focus

 

Description: This is a unique 12-month advanced training position with a focus in Flying Obstetrics and Gynaecology which provides excellent exposure for trainees wishing to maximise their gynaecologic and operative expertise.  This role will include a minimum of 20 weeks in the Mater’s Flying O+G (FOG) service which includes gynaecology clinics and operating across 14 different sites in rural and regional Queensland.  The FOG registrar role is based in Roma Tuesday-Friday and time is spent flying with the FOG team (FOG consultant, registrar and nurse) to peripheral centres on a rotational basis.  The FOG registrar will be based in Roma approximately 1 in 2-3 weeks during the FOG term (therefore 7-10 weeks during the 20 week FOG term). All flights and accommodation are provided. When working in Brisbane at the Mater, there will be an opportunity for rotations through differing aspects of tertiary-level antenatal and intrapartum care, as well as training in general gynaecology.

 

This position would ideally suit Senior Registrars intending to pursue a career in general obstetrics and gynaecology. The successful applicant may wish to complete the following ATM’s: Generalist Obstetrics, Generalist Gynaecology and Essential Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Skills.

Advanced O&G Training Post in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology

 

Description: This advanced training position would be ideal for a Level 5/6 Registrar looking to build upon their skills in general obstetrics and gynaecology.  The role will include rotations through differing aspects of tertiary-level antenatal and intrapartum care, as well as training in general gynaecology in Brisbane’s busiest general gynaecology unit. This role has been specifically designed to help consolidate and advance skills and would ideally suit Senior Registrars intending to pursue a career in general obstetrics and gynaecology.

 

Successful candidates may wish to complete the following ATM’s: Essential O&G Skills, Generalist Obstetrics and Generalist Gynaecology.
