Mater has a fantastic opportunity for a Speech Pathologist with experience in the adult acute setting to join the Speech Pathology team on a part time basis for 12 months to cover a maternity leave absence.

The role is available for up to four days per week working a minimum of 24 hours per week. Working days can be negotiated, however availability on Thursday and Friday is required.  There is the strong possibility of extension beyond the initial 12-month contract.

Salary range: $37.21 - $49.82 (Health Practitioner Level 3) per hour plus superannuation 

What you’ll be doing

The successful speech pathologist will join a small but highly developed, cohesive and passionate team to deliver high quality clinical services commensurate with clinical knowledge and skill in the areas of swallowing and communication.

The successful candidate will work predominantly with inpatients, in either an acute or rehabilitation setting, or a combination of both. As a part of this role, the successful candidate will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team; including Speech Pathology Allied Health Assistants.

The speech pathologist working in this role will receive regular professional supervision and support by senior speech pathologists, and will be supported to undertake quality improvement activities and student supervision as a part of this role. There may also be the opportunity for upskilling in areas of specialist areas including Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Study and/or tracheostomy management.

 About you

As the successful applicant you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology
  • Eligibility to receive a provider number through Medicare (if not already obtained)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, evidenced based speech pathology services in the areas of dysphagia and acquired communication impairments to an adult population, with minimal supervision required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Allied Health Assistants
  • Availability to participate in a Saturday morning Speech Pathology roster

Membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) or eligibility for membership, a current Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) status and previous experience in acute hospital speech pathology services including experience is highly desirable

In addition the ability to work flexibly and increase hours if needed would be highly regarded.
