About the role

Mater Procurement & Supply Chain are currently looking for a Senior Category Specialist - Indirects to join the team.  This is permanent, full-time position based in our purpose-built offices in Newstead, Brisbane.

Salary range: Commensurate with experience plus super plus generous salary packaging available

What you’ll be doing

The Senior Category Specialist is responsible for driving the delivery of value for money through the design and implementation of best practice procurement methodologies. The role will evolve a strong customer-focused culture within Procurement and Supply Chain Operations that builds collaborative relationships and influences a positive business partnering approach.

Some of your key duties will include:

  • Working as part of a Centre-led Category Management team responsible for leading and implementing procurement strategies and plans that support the delivery of best value outcomes
  • project managing the implementation of planned procurement initiatives utilising relevant value-creation levers
  • reviewing scope, product standardisation, strategic sourcing and aggregation of demand, with the goal of establishing transparent benefits and ensuring that robust contractual arrangements are executed to lock in the procured value
  • develop and maintain a depth of knowledge of relevant supplier markets, capabilities and technology and is responsible for negotiating and facilitating the implementation of long-term agreements and/or partnerships between suppliers and customers
  • ensure that category strategies and associated procurement activities are compliant with Procurement and Supply Chain Operations processes and Mater governance requirements. This role will provide advice on the development of key governance processes, undertake market research, investigate issues and apply contemporary knowledge in procurement processes

About you

Ideally you will have a relevant procurement or business qualification or certification.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing categories of spend, applying category management processes, developing sourcing strategies, tenders, business cases, category plans and change in a large, complex and diverse organisation
  • Demonstrated experience implementing contract and supplier management strategies and techniques, including strong negotiation skills and ability to successfully manage tender evaluation processes (leading to contract award for complex tenders)
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying opportunities to improve the value delivered from every dollar spent and in delivering the initiatives required to secure that value
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams including excellent coaching and mentoring skills as well as a passion for developing engaged teams and supporting individuals to achieve their full potential
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex customer and supplier issues, including the ability to resolve supplier performance issues; support internal customers in the development of complex specifications; and ensure materials/services are delivered according to contract
  • Knowledge and experience of e-procurement systems is essential, including the ability to generate reporting information and analyse data
  • Significant IT skills for online communication and content creation, including the Microsoft office suite
