Mater Health is looking for a Director Critical Care Services to join Mater Hospital Brisbane.  As medical leader for Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, this role will report to the General Manager, Mater Hospital and Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, and be based at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

The Director of Critical Care Services (DCCS) is a medical leader responsible for the effective and efficient management of employed medical staff across the Mater Hospital Brisbane (MHB), ensuring that effective, safe, and high-quality, value-based care is delivered to our patients.   Reporting to the General Manager, the DCCS is the line manager for the Clinical Directors of Anaesthetics, ICU, and Emergency in MHB and has operational responsibility for this employed medical workforce.  As a Mater Medical Director, this is also a key strategic role, working closely with the Chief Medical Officer in helping to inform policy and practice, standards, champion benchmarking and lead new models of care for their specialities, across the whole Mater Group.  

This includes:

  • Strategic and operational medical workforce planning for critical care services including training and education, professional development and support, and contemporary medical remuneration models.
  • In collaboration with the General Manager and Chief Medical Officer (CMO), establishing a robust medical management/governance structure across critical care services. 
  • Working with the General Manager and Director of Clinical Services to monitor and maintain the delivery of contracted service delivery Key Performance Indicators.
  • Applying contemporary financial and operational management principles to the critical care services medical workforce to achieve optimal operational performance, including revenue optimisation initiatives and the provision of value-based care. 
  • Provision of strong and effective medical leadership and advice to inform decision making, change initiatives and continuous quality improvement.
  • Implementation of Mater Health strategy, including participating in the planning of services at Mater Hospital Springfield Stage 2, and supporting the successful establishment and/or strengthening of Mater’s Centres of Excellence.  

About you

You will be registered or registrable as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Experience in leading within an integrated, multidisciplinary workforce comprising of both clinical and non-clinical team members; and
  • Experience in leading either public or private acute care services
  • Fellowship or Associate Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) (desirable)
  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in business, finance, healthcare management or human behaviour discipline (desirable)
