Mater Pharmacy are looking for some professional and enthusiastic Pharmacists available to work on a casual basis to support our teams:

  • Clinical Services team providing pharmaceutical care and medication management services to Mater Hospitals: Mater Public Hospital, Mater Mother’s Public & Private Hospitals, Mater Private Hospitals at South Brisbane, Redland and Springfield
  • Community Pharmacy team operating from three unique sites across the Mater South Brisbane Campus including Vaccination service and Cancer Care treatments.

The Clinical Services (hospital) team provides a comprehensive pharmacy service to all Mater Hospitals through our ward pharmacy service and on-site dispensaries. This includes a wide variety of specialties including general medical and surgical wards as well as obstetrics and gynaecology, special care and neonatal intensive care, paediatrics and adolescent health, oncology and haematology, adult intensive care, coronary care and interventional cardiology, neurosciences and rehabilitation. Our central dispensary also provides an extended hours service for all our hospitals during evenings, public holidays, weekends.

The Community Pharmacy team operates from three unique locations at the Mater South Brisbane campus and care for community patients in addition to hospital outpatients. Community based professional services are a focal point with Minfos in combination with Medadvisor used to optimise patient care levels. 

What you'll be doing

The successful applicant will work in one of the dispensary areas to efficiently manage medication supply and provide clinical support and medicines information to customers, patients, carers and other health professionals. In the team you will be working closely with and supervising pharmacy technicians, students and intern pharmacists. Tasks will include

  • Dispensing and checking medication supplies
  • Updating medication profiles and relevant information
  • Providing patient education and medication information to other health care providers
  • Responding to queries and requests via phone, e-mail/fax and in person
  • Handover to colleagues to ensure continuity of care
  • Completion of audits and compliance checks

Depending on your experience and interest, there will also be the opportunity for training to provide ward-based pharmacy services including documenting best possible medication history and clinically reviewing medications, preparation of discharge medication profiles and counselling patients as well as providing information and support to the multidisciplinary team.

Shifts will predominantly be at our South Brisbane campus between Monday to Friday but may also include evening, public holiday and weekend shifts as rostered and shifts at our Springfield and Redland locations from time to time.

Salary range: $41.87 - $56.07 per hour (Health Practitioner Level 3) plus 11.5%  superannuation and access to salary sacrificing arrangements.

About you

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • APHRA registration to practice as a Pharmacist (without restrictions)
  • a professional attitude, effective communication skills and a high level of attention to detail
