About the role
Mater Health is currently seeking applications from experienced, motivated and enthusiastic senior medical practitioners to be considered for the role of Clinical Director Hospital in the Home (HITH). This role provides an exciting opportunity to safely and effectively provide a diverse range of clinical services outside of the traditional hospital inpatient environment to a wide range of patients across the Greater Brisbane region.
This opportunity is a permanent and Part-Time (28 hours a week) opportunity.

Salary range: $120.51 - $127.77 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will lead and ensure high-quality, evidence-based acute clinical care in non-hospital settings for the HITH unit. Typical duties include;
- Provide clinical guidance and support to the HITH nursing team to deliver exceptional care
- Drive and participate in clinical research to contribute to the evidence base of HITH services
- Advocate for the strategic and clinical benefits of HITH at all levels
- Develop innovative models of care and clinical pathways for HITH
- Lead service and quality improvement processes, including audits and databases
- Represent the department at relevant meetings and workshops
- Monitor and achieve HITH activity and financial targets
- Optimise resource utilisation to meet budgetary and Key Performance Indicator goals
- Report monthly on productivity and financial performance
- Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and risk minimization strategies
- Address educational needs, contribute to policy review
- Investigate and mitigate clinical incidents and adverse events
- Maintain high standards of infection control for HITH services
- Oversee training of fellows, registrars, and residents in the team
- Provide governance through the HITH Unit Governance Committee, reporting on key metrics
- Lead by example in quality programs, service improvement, education, teaching, and research
About you
This role will suit a dynamic AHPRA-registered Medical Practitioner, with comprehensive experience as a specialist in Hospital in the Home, Emergency Medicine, General Medicine or Infectious Diseases, who works well with other practitioners and is experienced in mentoring and sharing experience with other staff.
The ideal applicants will have:
- Qualified as a medical practitioner, with specialist physician qualification (FRACP or equivalent) and current specialist registration with AHPRA
- Demonstrated ability to review, analyse, and evaluate patient care for appropriate treatment and investigations
- Comprehensive experience as a specialist in Hospital in the Home/Emergency Medicine/General Medicine/Infectious Diseases
- Dual trained specialties desirable
- Experience in maintaining high standards of care and responding to emergency or urgent situations
- Knowledge of health service improvement methodologies and contemporary care models
- Ability to foster a harmonious and collegiate team environment for medical, nursing/midwifery, and allied health, as well as non-clinical colleagues
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to liaise with, mentor, and direct other clinical staff as required
- Strong teamwork skills
- Experience in directing and managing a department is desirable
