About the role

The Mater’s Neonatal Critical Care Team is hiring!

An exciting start to 2025 with positions opening within all 3 areas within the Neonatal Critical Care Unit.

This includes Cardiac & Surgical, Preterm Medical and Special Care.

We are seeking skilled and motivated Registered Nursed to join the team. We have fixed term and permanent opportunities available, with options for full-time and part-time hours.

This position requires you to work all shifts across a 24-hour roster.


The Neonatal Critical Care Unit is a 79 bed perinatal tertiary referral centre which provides care for approximately 2000 babies per year. It is comprised of 45 intensive care beds, separated into 30 Preterm/Medical cots, 17 Cardiac/Surgical cots and 32 Special Care cots.

Care is delivered in accordance with best practice standards and in a highly collaborative environment. You will be part of large multidisciplinary teams and work in collaboration with multiple subspecialty teams from the state-wide children’s hospital. 

You will be caring for babies and supporting families. The Mater NCCU is a perinatal tertiary referral centre for babies requiring complex care for the Southeast and central Queensland regions.

Salary range: $41.74 - $53.53 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, our Registered Nurses make up a vital and respected part of the nursing team at Mater. Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Utilising a structured approach carry out comprehensive and accurate nursing assessments of patients
  • Within scope of practice, implements planned evidence-based nursing interventions
  • Act as a patient advocate ensuring patients are informed and consent is gained prior to procedures
  • Contribute to the maintenance of an environment which promotes safety, security and personal integrity of individual patients and groups
  • Maintain and adhere to Infection Control policies and practices
  • Ensure confidentiality of corporate and patient information 

 About you       

Previous experience in NCCU is advantageous, but not essential, we offer education and training and are looking for passionate nurses who are keen to join the Mater and pursue a career in NCCU.

In order to be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered with no limitations or restrictions
  • A Postgraduate neonatal qualification, or willing to work towards this
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and clinical problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the continued quality improvement and best practice principles
  • Understanding of the Mater mission and values and the ability to engage others in living the values in NCCU
