About the role 

Mater Pathology is looking for a Billing Officer to join the team for a fixed term contract until 30 June 2025. Based at our South Brisbane campus, this role will report into the General Manager of Mater Pathology. 

This role is responsible for the processing of overdue debts as part of the Pathology billing team to ensure accurate and timely invoicing.  The role will be responsible for debt management. The Billing Officer will work Pathology Billing Team to review, monitor and action overdue payments to ensure timely collection of outstanding debt. 

Salary range: $38.81- 43.16 per hour (MCAS Level 3) plus 11.5% superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing 

  •  Ability to understand and interpret Medicare billing requirements 
  • Processing of accounts and assist with the resolution of account queries for patient and Health Funds 
  • Liaise with patients, internal departments, Medical Consultants, Collectors, laboratory staff and external organisation relating to fees and charges 
  • Ensure all pathology billing is compliant to Medicare Schedule requirements
  • Ensure all clinical data is correct, accurate and reliable
  • Presenting analysed results 
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment. 
  • Maintain patient confidentiality. 
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external customers and be able to reflect this on the phone 

About you 

  • You will have a background in pathology or other healthcare services and experience in Medicare billing. 
  • High level of skills in the operation of a Laboratory Information System 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Sound knowledge of pathology and billing practices
