About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced and compassionate Clinical Nurse to join our Geriatric Medicine and Gastroenterology Ward in a part-time (0.8 FTE), permanent position.

Our dynamic 21-bed inpatient medical unit provides comprehensive care for patients requiring acute and subacute management in geriatric medicine and gastroenterology. We specialise in supporting older adults through complex health journeys, offering multidisciplinary care tailored to the unique needs of ageing populations. Simultaneously, we deliver expert treatment for patients with acute gastrointestinal conditions, ensuring timely interventions and coordinated recovery pathways.

Salary range: $54.45 - $58.30 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will provide advanced clinical leadership and high-quality nursing care across a dynamic, fast-paced ward environment.

You will:

  • Coordinate safe, effective and holistic patient care using advanced clinical skills, evidence-based practice and strong care-planning capability
  • Lead and support the team by providing clinical guidance, role-modelling professional standards and mentoring less experienced staff
  • Collaborate closely with medical, nursing and allied health colleagues to achieve optimal patient outcomes, smooth care transitions and effective discharge planning
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives, uphold quality and safety standards and support the operational needs of the ward when delegated by the NUM

About you

You are a dedicated and patient-centred clinician who brings strong clinical capability, leadership qualities and a commitment to delivering high-quality care for older adults and patients with gastrointestinal needs.

You will also have:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of three years’ recent experience in a relevant clinical specialty
  • Tertiary qualification in a clinical specialty (postgraduate studies in progress or completed highly regarded)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, mentorship and support to nursing colleagues
