About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse – Admitted Services to join our Young Adult & Mental Health Services team in a full-time, permanent role (36 hours per week). This is a shift-working position, involving 12-hour shifts across a 7-day rotating roster.

Catherine’s House is a world-class perinatal and infant mental health service, offering both inpatient and outpatient care. Working primarily within our 10-bed inpatient unit, you will provide advanced, evidence-based mental health nursing care to mothers experiencing significant perinatal mental illness while supporting their co-admitted infants in a family-centred, recovery-focused model of care.

Salary range: $54.45 - $58.30 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused mental health care within an integrated mother and infant service, and:

  • Deliver contemporary, individualised, safe and recovery-focused mental health nursing care to mothers and primary carers within an integrated perinatal model.
  • Support consumers in developing parenting skills and enhancing early attachment with their baby while building strong therapeutic relationships.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture by providing nursing leadership, mentoring less experienced clinicians, and working collaboratively across the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in clinical program evaluation, strategic planning, and service improvement activities to ensure effective functioning of the mother and baby unit.

About you

You are a skilled mental health clinician with advanced practice capability, a supportive approach to teamwork, and a strong commitment to perinatal mental health care. You will bring:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) status in QLD, or at least two years’ mental health experience enabling eligibility for AMHP recognition following training.
  • Willingness to work towards specialist mental health and/or perinatal and infant mental health qualifications.
  • Advanced skills in mental health assessment, diagnostic formulation, treatment planning and delivery, and discharge planning.
  • Ability to manage complex mental health presentations safely using advanced de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute respectfully to treatment planning.
  • Capacity to provide clinical supervision, mentorship and positive role modelling—including safe and appropriate parenting practices.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with consumers, families, health professionals, students and researchers to support high-quality service delivery.
  • Credentialed Mental Health Nurse status with ACMHN or willingness to work towards credentialing (desirable).
