About the role
Mater is seeking an experienced Advanced Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding Service team at South Brisbane. This full-time, permanent position offers a rewarding opportunity to apply your expert coding skills within a supportive and values-driven environment. You’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate clinical coding that directly supports patient care and hospital funding, while working alongside a dedicated team committed to the mission of the Sisters of Mercy.
Salary range: $54.57 to $59.38 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will assign precise ICD-10-AM codes to patient episodes by thoroughly analysing clinical documentation, ensuring compliance with Australian Coding Standards and relevant guidelines. You will collaborate closely with clinicians to clarify medical records and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Using tools like 3M Codefinder and hospital information systems, you will help maintain high standards of coding accuracy and data integrity within designated timeframes. Being a hybrid workplace, blending in-person collaboration with the flexibility of work from home to enhance a better work-life balance and productivity.
About you
To be considered for this position you should have:
- Successful completion of approved medical terminology and clinical coding qualifications
- Extensive experience coding within hospital environments using ICD-10-AM, with expert knowledge in at least one clinical specialty
- Proven track record of coding accuracy (95% DRG accuracy, 95% Principal Diagnosis accuracy, 90% Additional Diagnosis and Procedure accuracy)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clinicians and colleagues
- Proficient in 3M Codefinder, hospital information systems, and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent time management, organisation skills, and the ability to meet deadlines consistently
- Commitment to the values of the Sisters of Mercy and a strong understanding of workplace health and safety principles
