About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced Assistant in Nursing to join our Acute Medical Unit in a permanent part-time (32 hours per week) position.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a fast-paced acute environment, supporting patients with complex medical conditions, including those experiencing delirium and dementia. As part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses to deliver safe, compassionate, patient-centred care aligned with Mater’s Mission and values.
Salary range: $33.20 - $36.35 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this hands-on role, you will support the nursing team in delivering high-quality care across the Acute Medical ward by:
- Assisting patients with activities of daily living including showering, mobilisation and meals
- Providing one-on-one supervision and support for patients with delirium, dementia or cognitive impairment
- Supporting safe patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse
- Monitoring and maintaining a clean, safe clinical environment
- Restocking supplies and maintaining ward equipment
- Transporting specimens, medical records and other clinical items as required
- Communicating effectively with nurses and the multidisciplinary team to support optimal patient outcomes
About you
You are an experienced Assistant in Nursing who thrives in an acute medical setting and brings a calm, compassionate approach to caring for patients with complex needs. You will demonstrate:
- Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (or working towards completion)
- Proven experience working in an acute medical ward
- Demonstrated experience supporting patients with delirium and dementia
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide emotional support to patients and families
- A commitment to infection control, safety and quality standards
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- A patient-centred mindset aligned with Mater’s Mission and behavioural standards
