Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for multiple Chefs to join us in a permanent, part-time roles. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $34.87 - $36.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As a Cook at Mater Springfield, you’ll play a key role in preparing and presenting high-quality meals across all meal periods, supporting the smooth operation of our kitchen. You’ll ensure food safety, consistency, and efficiency while working as part of a dedicated team that delivers nutritious meals to patients and guests.

In this role, you will:

• Prepare and present hot and cold dishes for patients and buffets to a high standard
• Follow standard recipes, portion sizes, and cooking methods to maintain quality
• Support stock control, labelling, and food safety procedures to minimise waste
• Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic work area, using cleaning products correctly
• Ensure kitchen equipment is in good working order and report faults promptly
• Adhere to Mater’s Food Safety Plan and workplace health and safety guidelines
• Work collaboratively to meet service timeframes and performance targets

About you

You’re a qualified cook with a passion for preparing high-quality, nutritious meals in a fast-paced, team-focused environment. You take pride in maintaining food safety standards and consistency across all aspects of meal service.

You will have:

• Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent Trade Chef qualification
• Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (within the last 5 years)
• Experience in a healthcare or similar high-volume kitchen (minimum 3 years)
• Strong understanding of HACCP principles and cook/chill processes
• Ability to read and follow recipes accurately and work to tight timeframes
• Effective communication and teamwork skills with a focus on quality and safety
