Designed to support experienced community, aged care or GP nurses in expanding their clinical skills, this program provides a structured pathway into the hospital environment with hands-on learning and ongoing support from experienced healthcare professionals.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for our next intake. Successful applicants will complete a transition program and be offered permanent part-time employment at 0.6-0.8 FTE.

If you’re looking to grow your career, challenge yourself in a new clinical setting and make a meaningful impact on patients throughout their recovery journey, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Salary range: $44.06 - $56.52 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $18,550 + access to many staff benefits!

About the Program

In this program, you will take part in dedicated study days and work alongside experienced nurses, supported closely by our Clinical Educators. You will gain hands-on experience caring for patients across a variety of acute settings, including Medical and CCU/CTU.

Your community nursing experience will be highly valued as you deliver holistic patient care, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support individualised care planning.

Working in a modern acute care environment with advanced technology, complex medical cases, and specialised surgical services, you will have the opportunity to significantly expand your clinical knowledge and skill set. Acute care nursing is fast-paced and highly rewarding, and whether you are an experienced nurse or transitioning from a non-acute setting, this program is designed to build your confidence and capability. You may also have opportunities to observe surgical procedures, enhancing your understanding of the full patient journey from admission through to recovery.

Throughout the program and beyond the initial 8 weeks, you will be supported by Mater Education Clinical Facilitators and Educators to ensure a smooth and supported transition into acute care practice.
