About the role
Mater Group Finance have an opportunity for a permanent full-time Financial Accountant to join the team. This position is based in our purpose-built offices in Newstead.
This is a fantastic opportunity to utilise and develop your exceptional Financial Accountant skills within a purpose driven organisation that offers career progression. This is a process-specific role responsible for completing end to end financial reporting tasks inclusive of monthly and quarterly general ledger reconciliations for the assigned portfolio. As part of this role, they will need to lead, mentor and develop a small team.
The ability to foster strong relationships with direct reports, other finance teams and multiple business partners will be essential to building a culture of continuous improvement to improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial transactions.
Salary range: $62.74 - $67.20 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Financial Accountant is responsible for assisting in the end-to-end financial reporting function for the assigned portfolio within the Mater Group. Some of your other key duties will include (but not limited to):
- Subject matter expert on assigned responsible process area assigned within the Mater entities
- Act independently within set guidelines, including the use and allocation of resources. Where no guidelines exist, assist the Financial Accounting Supervisor in the development of new procedures and guidelines
- Execute the day-to-day accounting activities for their given portfolio
- Responsible for month end close processes in line with the timetable including preparation of the required management and statutory reporting to internal and external users
- Responsible for preparing accounting journal entries and review of journals prepared by the Accountant and Assistant Accountant relevant to the assigned process and responsibility area
- Provide analysis on balance sheet and P&L during period end reporting processes
- Responsible for the preparation of monthly and quarterly Balance Sheet and P&L reconciliations and other information in the assigned process area required for statutory reporting note disclosures in a timely and accurate manner
- Apply or interpret legislation, regulations or guidelines as required
- Responsible for reviewing Balance Sheet and P&L reconciliations prepared by the Accountant and Assistant Accountant and submitting for approval to the Financial Accounting Supervisor
- Prepare funding acquittals in accordance with the timetable
- Assist the Financial Accounting Supervisor in the preparation of the statutory financial statements, inclusive of balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, note disclosures and variance analysis in accordance with AASB accounting standards and Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) requirements
- Support the external audit process
- Responsible for the identification and coordination of internal control issues and opportunities for continuous improvement to business systems and processes in work area/s, and for the development of implementation initiatives
- Lead, mentor and develop their team to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to effectively achieve business objectives and meet deliverables
About you
As the successful applicant, you will possess the following:
- Professional Accounting Qualification (CA/CPA)
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Possess high attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of people and support a culture of continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workloads
- 2 - 5 years of relevant financial accounting/statutory reporting accounting experience
- Strong understanding of finance month end close process
- Health specific or large/complex sector background highly regarded
- Highly developed technical accounting skills
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 highly regarded
