Mater Research are looking for a Lab and Operations Officer to join the team! This is a permanent role in a full-time capacity. It will be based across our South Brisbane campus and Translational Research Institute (Woolloongabba) sites.

Salary range: $43.78 - $47.18 (MRI Admin L6) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The Lab and Operations Officer provides skilled operational and administrative support across Mater Research's laboratory and office environments at the Aubigny Place and Translational Research Institute (TRI) campuses.

The position is responsible for coordinating day-to-day laboratory and facilities operations, maintaining operational records and systems, supporting laboratory users, coordinating routine maintenance and service requests, and contributing to the implementation of laboratory safety and operational processes.

The position works collaboratively with the Lab and Safety Manager, Mater Research staff, researchers, students, partner organisations, facilities teams and external service providers to ensure laboratory and shared spaces are safe, functional, appropriately maintained and fit for purpose.

The position operates with a high degree of autonomy in coordinating routine operational activities and is expected to exercise sound judgement in prioritising work, resolving routine operational issues and coordinating multiple stakeholders within established policies, procedures and delegated responsibilities.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Laboratory and Operational Experience
    Relevant qualification and/or demonstrated experience in laboratory operations, facilities coordination, research administration, science, health or a related discipline, with experience working in a laboratory, research, healthcare or similarly regulated environment.
  • Operational Coordination and Organisation
    Demonstrated ability to coordinate operational activities, maintenance, service requests, contractors and resources across multiple stakeholders, while effectively prioritising competing demands and working independently within established procedures.
  • Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement
    Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve operational issues, exercise initiative and sound judgement, and contribute to improvements in processes, systems and user experience.
  • Records, Systems and Administration
    Demonstrated experience maintaining accurate records, registers and documentation, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use relevant organisational systems and databases.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
    Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and communicate with researchers, operational teams, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Values and Professional Integrity
    Commitment to the Mission and Values of the Mater Group and Mater Research, with demonstrated integrity, respect for confidentiality, and commitment to ethical research conduct and relevant governance requirements.
  • Desirable: Experience working within a PC2 laboratory, biomedical research institute, clinical research environment or comparable regulated facility. Experience with laboratory equipment management, cold storage systems, asset management or research infrastructure coordination would be highly regarded.
