Scientist - Infectious Disease Serology, Molecular Microbiology & Immunophenotyping

About the role

A fixed-term (initial term 6 months with possible extension of 12 months) part  time maternity leave cover HP3 level opportunity within Mater Pathology’s has become available for a Scientist working 46 hours per fortnight . Whilst experience in a Pathology Laboratory will be highly regarded, new and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

The role will be in a new amalgamated department which covers Serology and Molecular diagnostics for infectious disease and also Flow Cytometry. The purpose of this role is to apply independent scientific judgement and knowledge of quality control processes in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the accurate and timely verification and validation of test results.

Salary range: $33.32 - $50.36 (Health Practitioner Level 3) per hour plus superannuation

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent. The qualification must include clinical units in Immunology, Chemical Pathology, Haematology, and Microbiology.
  • An understanding of analytical pathology in Infectious diseases testing &/or Flow Cytometry.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Operational and/or scientific clinical laboratory experience is highly desirable

Applicants will also need to have ability to problem solve routine technical issues, participate positively in a multi-disciplinary team environment, and work efficiently while also prioritising workflow in a high workload environment.

Initially established and supervised by the Sisters of Mercy in 1919, Mater Pathology has grown into a multi-faceted and technologically advanced laboratory service serving patients, doctors and hospitals. Our collection centres are located in over 20 suburbs supporting local communities. In addition, Mater Pathology also offers a 24 hour collection service out of the South Brisbane Mater Adults Hospital for patient convenience.
