About the role

We are currently seeking applications from experienced youth workers to join our service as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Worker in a permanent and full-time or part time  capacity, based at South Brisbane.

As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Worker you will effectively engage with young people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds who are experiencing problematic substance use.  Clarence Street provides alcohol and other drug services for young people aged 13-25.

The programs at Clarence Street include a residential withdrawal program (ADAWS), therapeutic residential program (Thread), specialist youth work service and a community based intensive outreach program that will seek to engage and support a small group of young people who tend to access AOD support and other services during crisis.

Salary range:$34.93- $48.40 (Health Practitioner Level 2) plus superannuation + salary packaging access up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will be providing culturally specific interventions and initiatives to support young people and their families.

Other duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide outreach and engagement to Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander young people
  • Delivering youth alcohol and other drug interventions, including brief intervention, assessment and support within a harm minimisation framework.
  • Implementation of a variety of therapeutic and cultural groups/interventions to support young people to achieve their goals.
  • Working with a culturally and socially diverse group of clients, and to apply a culturally responsive framework to guide interventions.
  • Provide case management and counselling activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support treatment goals for the young person and their family/carers or other people involved in the young person’s care.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs / Youth Work / Community Service or other health related qualification or working towards similar
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people affected by substance use
  • Experience in working with young people in a outreach setting
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
