About the role

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Nurse Unit Manager –Surgical, Medical and Rehabilitation Wards with strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills to join the Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg.

This position is permanent full-time (1.0 FTE), working in conjunction with existing Nurse Unit Managers to oversee inpatient services, with delegated and shared portfolios.

As one of the Nurse Unit Managers (NUM), you will provide operational and clinical management in a combined leadership role. As joint leaders of this team, you will be responsible for the collaborative clinical, resource management, education, and research accountabilities of nursing within the inpatient setting. Additionally, you will ensure the provision of best practice, quality, and safety aspects of patient care.

Located within the medical precinct on Bourbong Street, our hospital is a 59-bed facility featuring four operating theatres, a fully equipped day surgery unit, and a wide range of specialist clinical services.

Salary range: $69.34 - $74.56 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

The Nurse Unit Manager will work collaboratively with other NUM’s and be responsible for the safe, efficient and effective management of the day-to-day operations of the ward areas within the Hospital. This position is shared, with portfolios to cover both a clinical and administrative function.

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): 

  • Apply sound clinical practice which ensures a safe environment and promotes optimal health for both clients and staff
  • Assess and respond appropriately to clinical and nursing problems
  • Liaise with the local Executive Team in respect of high-level staff management matters and decisions. This may include matters of conduct, performance, recruitment, selection, orientation and termination within the designated inpatient areas and ensure all processes are conducted in line with organisational policies
  • Develop and monitor Unit/Department rosters that support the Hospital’s model of care and safe service delivery
  • Accept and adhere to all policies and procedures of Mater Policy and Procedure Library (MPPL) and the Mater Hospital Bundaberg
  • Undertake other duties/responsibilities as directed by the local Executive Team or other designated authority(s)

To be considered for the role you must have:

Essential

  • Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) & hold a current licence to practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with another NUM
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in one or more of the designated inpatient areas
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills
  • Prior comparable experience / demonstrated ability to participate in operational management in a health care environment

Desired

  • Current Advanced Life Support certification
  • Tertiary qualifications in a health or management discipline
  • Managerial and human resource skills
  • Rehabilitation experience
