Mater Mothers Hospital: General Practitioner (GP) Antenatal Care

Mater Mother’s Hospital is a premier women’s health facility and Queensland’s largest maternity care provider.  We are excited to be able to offer a unique position to a General Practitioner (GP) with a special interest in maternity care. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in the provision of low and high-risk maternity care, as well as contribute to the design and delivery of the Mater Mother’s GP alignment program.

What you'll be doing

The Mater’s Mothers public hospital cares for approximately 6000 publicly funded women annually.  The antenatal care service includes an established GP shared care program which is supported by an innovative GP alignment program and GP liaison midwifery team.

Mater’s unique approach to antenatal clinic puts woman at the centre of care and values midwifery / medical collaboration at all stages of the pregnancy journey.  Our clinician assisted and direct to patient telehealth consultations enable women to receive care in community settings and the comfort of their home and is supported by cutting edge digital systems. In this role you will be providing clinical care at a weekly antenatal clinic session in face to face and telehealth consultations.  You will provide care to women in various models of care, supported by Obstetricians, specialist midwives, Maternal-fetal medicine specialists and obstetric physicians. Comprehensive local guidelines are also available to support clinical decision making.

In addition to providing clinical care, you will work with an interprofessional team to promote effective GP shared care for women birthing at Mater. This will include contributions to the development, delivery and evaluation of GP alignment programs and clinical governance related to GP shared care patients.

About you:

This role is suited to a GP with a special interest in antenatal care, who has obtained a Diploma of O&G or a Certificate of Women’s’ health from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or equivalent).  The successful candidate will have current and future experience of participating in GP share care with Mater (as a GP).   The GP will also have been active in the South Brisbane Primary Health Network and ideally other local organisations related to the provision of antenatal, postnatal and newborn care.
