Mater Health has an exciting newly created part-time position for an experienced Social Worker to join our Social Work and Psychology team in an initial contract from July 2024-June 2026. Reporting to the Director of Social Work and Psychology, as our Domestic and Family Violence Specialist you will build the capability of the health workforce and clinical services in responding to DFV across publicly funded divisions of Mater South Brisbane’s hospital and health services.

The role supports the integration of Queensland’s DFV reform agenda through training, education, awareness raising, policy, procedures, and via integration with the community DFV sector.

Salary range: $67.84 - $70.77 (HP Level 5) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

Typical tasks include but not limited to:

  • Work strategically to shift the culture at Mater towards an “authorising environment” embracing DFV as a health issue, embedding a DFV screening and response model as routine
  • Implement a robust DFV framework at Mater that supports best practice and advances Queensland’s reform agenda.
  • Build the confidence of Mater People to effectively respond to DFV indicators
  • Ensure DFV Mater policy and procedures are contemporary, fit for purpose, align with state-wide DFV reforms and legislative changes
  • Ensure Information management protocols both support patient privacy and enable risk management
  • Deliver specialist assessment, high level advice and consultative social work services in Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) with minimal clinical supervision
  • Act as a reference point for Mater People on the best practice assessment and management of DFV presentations
  • Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices
  • Provide advanced professional direction on the development of governance through clinical policies, practices, procedures and protocols
  • Lead service improvement activities to enhance standards
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate a program of DFV health workforce education and training
  • Attend relevant committees, community forums and meetings as required
  • Support the professional development, clinical supervision and clinical expertise of less experienced practitioners, peers, students, and social work assistants
  • Actively contribute to the identification, implementation and evaluation of relevant research, education and training initiatives

About you

We are searching for someone who is/has:

  • Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Completed a university level Social Work degree accredited by the AASW.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications would be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of healthcare is desirable but not essential
  • Extensive experience, specialist knowledge and applied understanding of comprehensive DFV risk assessment and safety planning frameworks
  • Comprehensive applied understanding of legislation and clinical practice guidelines in the context of public health care systems
  • High level competency in liaison, negotiation, advocacy and collaboration with stakeholders to effect education, training and organisational systemic change.
  • Ability to communicate with influence across nursing, midwifery, medical, allied health and associated health professions, Mater executive and leaders in Mater Ministries
  • Utilise advanced level negotiation, consultancy, conflict management, advocacy, reporting and change management skills
