About the role

Mater Health and Mater Education are pleased to offer a unique training opportunity for a Simulation Education Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  Mater recognises that whilst teaching is a key component of the role of a specialist there is no formal education in this area. Mater is a leader in the area of team-based and technical skill simulation training and research, and is home to a state-of-the-art simulation centre with strong ties to the internationally renowned Bond Translational Simulation Collaborative. Commencing in February 2025, this unique role will enable one Senior Registrar or new Fellow to obtain formal qualifications in Health Professions Education during their training, whilst working as a junior specialist in a supported transition to consultant.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

The simulation and education component of this role will involve teaching students, RMOs, registrars and consultants, utilising a wide variety of educational modalities with a heavy focus on simulation.  During the 12-month role, the successful candidate will be provided opportunities for professional development including the option for post graduate qualifications in health professions education. This includes participation in Simulation Instructor Training Courses and support and mentoring from world leading simulation educators.

The clinical component of this role provides the opportunity to act as a relieving Consultant and to practice independently, supervising registrars and residents as a Specialist supported by senior colleagues.  There may also be an opportunity to participate in the Mater’s Flying O&G Service, comprising week-long gynaecology-focussed rotations to rural and regional Queensland.

About you

Both Senior registrars in their final year of training and new Fellows are encouraged to apply.   Senior registrars are expected to be able to complete the RANZCOG “Educator” Advanced Training Module.
