About the role

Mater Mothers Hospital is a premier women’s health facility and Queensland’s largest maternity care provider, delivering more than 11,00 babies every year.  Mater serves as as a referral centre for complex obstetric and MFM cases and is also the state’s largest provider of publicly funded gynaecology services.   Mater is excited to be able to offer two, highly competitive, Senior Registrar roles, commencing February 2025.  The successful candidates will have the opportunity to grow their tertiary-level Obstetrics skills as well as enhance their vaginal, open and advanced laparoscopic portfolios.  All whilst playing a key role in leadership and education within our department.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

Mater Mother’s Hospital is seeking two exceptionally talented and enthusiastic final year trainees for the role of Senior Registrar.  These roles offer a supported transition to junior Consultant level and are ideal preparation for future independent Specialist practice.  The position offers excellent experience in tertiary, high-risk antenatal and intrapartum care, including supervision and teaching of Registrars and RMO’s.  Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to work as a junior Consultant including independent operating lists, outpatient clinics and labour ward shifts.  It is imperative that applicants be committed to continuing education and teaching of junior colleagues.

The role also provides exposure to tertiary level sub-specialty areas of practice including six-months spent with the Mater’s Advanced Laparoscopic Team, Persistent Pelvic Pain MTD Clinic and Adolescent Gynaecology.  There will also be an opportunity for interested registrars to participate in the Mater Flying O&G Service, comprising week-long gynaecology-focussed rotations to rural and regional Queensland.  The successful applicant will take on a key clinical governance role in the Unit and be expected to be actively involved in the unit’s education, audit, risk management, administrative and research activities

About you

This Advanced Training Post would ideally suit a Senior Registrar intending to pursue a career in general obstetrics and gynaecology and is specifically targeted at Level 6 trainees.  The successful applicant may wish to undertake the Colposcopy ATM, Hysteroscopy/Laparoscopy ATM and/or Essential Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Skills ATM. 

Level 6 trainees (who have completed both written and oral examination) are encouraged to apply.  

For exceptional candidates there may be an option of a 2-year position to experience a selection of our advanced training and senior registrar roles as part of our commitment to help to develop Australia’s best Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
