The Queensland Cord Blood Bank At The Mater (QCBB) is seeking a permanent full time Production Manager to join the team based at the Mater Hospital’s, South Brisbane campus.  

About the role

The Queensland Cord Blood Bank At The Mater (QCBB) was established in 1998 and is a member of the AusCord public cord blood banking network operating within Australia. The program is funded by the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments of Australia. It manufactures a therapeutic product Haematopoietic Progenitor Cells, Cord Blood (HPC, Cord Blood) under a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) issued manufacturing licence for which the incumbent of this role serves as the Production Nominee. The program is also accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).

The Production Manager role is a key leadership position within the program. It manages and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the QCBB processing and cryostorage facilities and laboratory personnel to ensure control of manufacture, provision of safe high quality cord blood units for haematopoietic stem cell transplantation in accordance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice, Applicable Law and the applicable international standards for cord blood banking. The role is supported by an experienced laboratory team, a Director, Medical Director and Quality Manager.

The role actively participates in and contributes to the daily operation of the laboratory and management activities and continuous improvement activities to enhance delivery of a best practice, quality public cord blood banking service.

The position is employed on Mater Misericordiae Limited’s Health Professional’s Award at Level 5 ($67.84 – $70.77 per hour + entitlements)  

About you

To be considered for this position you will have:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Applied Science / Science or equivalent.
  • Practical management experience in the manufacture of therapeutic products in accordance with applicable law.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Demonstrated professional competence in Haematology, cord blood banking, laboratory aspects of stem cell transplantation or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application and maintenance of Quality Management System processes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • Understanding of the requirements for TGA licensure the code of GMP and FACT Accreditation.
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • Ability to follow established guidelines, policies and procedures.
