Catherine’s House is Australia’s first integrated centre for perinatal mental health care and provides mental health treatment and support to new parents.

We have an exciting 0.8 and permanent position available for an experienced Psychologist looking to join the team! In this role you will work across the inpatient mother-baby unit and the outpatient private day program. With one in five mums and up to one in ten fathers experiencing depression, anxiety and other mental health issues before or after the birth of a child, this new facility will triple the number of public beds in Queensland from 4 to 12 for families in need of perinatal mental health support.

Salary range: $60.01 - $64.54 (HP Level 4) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

This role will provide advanced treatment and support and dyadic interventions to parents experiencing moderate to severe mental health illness during their admission to the mental health inpatient unit. The role may also be required to develop and facilitate outpatient group programs in the private day program. Typical tasks include:

  • Deliver evidence-based, group and individual interventions
  • Provide comprehensive perinatal and infant mental health assessment and ensure mothers, babies and families receive consistent coordinated care that addresses their psychological, emotional, and physical needs
  • Provide advice and assistance in the development of effective interventions for consumers
  • Provide ongoing assessment to monitor and review the effectiveness of intervention strategies implemented
  • Liaise with various specialists and attends psychosocial meetings
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish a network of referral options and information for consumers
  • Facilitate access to mental health services for mothers and babies with perinatal and infant mental health needs
  • Ensure other adequate follow up is arranged for our consumers ongoing care upon discharge
  • Contribute to the integration and evaluation of strategic direction and priorities for quality improvement and research
  • Act to enhance the professional development of self and others
  • Provision of clinical supervision
  • Ensure delegated portfolio responsibilities are achieved within agreed timeframes
  • Ensure key performance indicators are achieved within agreed timeframes and resources

About you

We are searching for someone who is/has the following.

  • General Registration via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Psychology Board of Australia Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology or Educational and Developmental Psychology
  • Eligibility for accreditation or current Board approved Supervisor status with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Authorised Mental Health Practitioner under the MHA 2016 or meets remit to apply for same
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to professional development and quality improvement and /or clinical research
  • Experience and ability to provide an advanced level of skilled psychological clinical assessment and interventions, preferably to perinatal patients and/or ideally within an acute mental health inpatient unit
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, establish priorities, exercise initiative, and deliver outputs within agreed timeframes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to professional development and quality improvement and /or clinical research
  • Ability to support continuous improvement of local service delivery
  • Broad understanding of the continuum of care and the organisational provision of multidisciplinary health service
