About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced senior Nurse to advance their career to become a Cancer Care Coordinator for Medical Oncology and Haematology within the Mater Cancer Care Centre at Springfield. This position will be offered on a permanent full-time contract basis, 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 1st July 2024. 

Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield (MCCCS) offers services to both public and private patients within a modern state-of-the-art facility which provides individually personalised, comprehensive and compassionate care. The MCCCS includes consultation rooms, cancer care treatment pods, palliative care support and pharmacy. 

Specialising in woman’s cancers, hematology, oncology and palliative care this busy unit coordinates up to 80 treatments and review patients per day and works closely with our South Brisbane private and public Oncology wards.

Salary range: $59.87 - $67.21 (Registered Nurse 3) per hour plus superannuation and salary packaging

What you’ll be doing

As the Cancer Care Coordinator, you will primarily be responsible for supporting the Nursing and Medical teams to deliver safe, quality and evidence-based Cancer Care to MCCCS patients. You will also work closely and support the Nurse Unit Manager and Team Leader to coordinate daily operations of MCCCS clinics and treatments.

Other duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to): -

  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and research projects to improve practices and patient experiences
  • Provide support and mentoring, role modelling and promotion of cooperation and collaborative teamwork
  • Use advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and experience to act as a clinical and educational resource within MCCCS, sharing knowledge through formal and informal opportunities
  • Maintain communication with the public and private inpatient wards at Mater South Brisbane and other Hospitals that our patient might be admitted

About you

You will be a strong and compassionate leader who drives innovation in your field; using evidence-based research to suggest new ways of doing things and take a positive and adaptive approach to embedding change.

In addition, you will also possess:

  • At least 2 years’ recent experience in a Clinical Nurse or CCC position within a Day Oncology unit
  • Current and unrestricted AHPRA Nursing registration
  • A post-graduate qualification or enrolled in a relevant program
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership, clinical supervision, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work within and lead a team using strong negotiation and consultative skills
  • Proven ability to initiate and conduct nursing research, implement changes, and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence-based research
  • Willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
