About the role

Mater Mothers’ Hospital Brisbane currently has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, passionate Social Work Assistant to join our Mater Mothers team. Based at the South Brisbane Campus, this position is a permanent and Part-Time opportunity work 30.4 hours a week.

You will be joining a welcoming, friendly and professional team providing Social Work services across Mater Hospitals and will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams in varied caseloads. Our Social Work department has been nominated (Mater People’s Awards) two years in a row for leadership, innovation, and clinical excellence.  You will be joining an established and welcoming team with a positive workplace culture. 

The Mater Mothers Social Work team provides specialist services to inpatients and outpatients in the areas of Mother’s, Babies and Women. You will work in partnership with the Social Workers assisting patients, their families and carers in dealing with the emotional, social and practical issues that arise in pregnancy and parenting. You will work across numerous clinical areas such as antenatal outpatient clinics, antenatal and postnatal inpatient wards, neonatal wards and women’s health.

Salary range: $33.19 - $34.67 (OO3) per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As a valued member of the team you will be delegated tasks to:

  • Assist patients and families with paperwork, processes and referrals
  • Provide patients with support, care and education resources
  • Communicate and liaise with social workers, patients, family and carers, and other staff
  • Liaise with external providers including community organisations, and government/non-government services
  • Manage patient resources to support family wellbeing
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings, relevant professional development activities and mandatory education
  • Undertake ongoing training and development activities as appropriate

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Intermediate computer skills, including word processing
  • A high level of literacy and numeracy skills
  • A willingness to acquire specific competencies relevant to a Social Work Assistant and to participate in training
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work as part of a team
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills
  • Relevant education in either Health Services Assisting, Allied Health Assisting, or Community Services
  • Experience working in either Community Services, Aged Care, Disability Services or Healthcare environment
