About the role
Mater Private Hospital Brisbane Perioperative Unit is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Registered Nurses with Scrub/Scout experience to work within the theatres.
Roles on offer are permanent opportunities available with an immediate start. The successful candidates will be required to work across a 7-day roster including, early and late shifts, weekends and public holidays and participating in an on call overnight roster (please note night shifts are not a requirement of this role however you are required to participate in a rotational on call overnight roster).
The Perioperative Unit specialises in general, gynaecology, robotics, plastics, urology, vascular, Orthopaedics (including spine) and neurosurgery. Salary range: $41.47 - $53.30 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Whilst displaying the highest level of clinical standards for the unit you will be responsible for:
- Prepare and organize the operating room before surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available
- Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and other supplies during procedures
- Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout the surgical process to prevent infection
- Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate and respond to the needs of the surgeon, ensuring a seamless workflow
- Monitor and assess patient vital signs before, during, and after surgery, providing immediate intervention if necessary
- Document accurate and comprehensive surgical records, ensuring patient confidentiality and compliance with regulatory standards
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their comfort, safety, and wellbeing throughout the surgical experience
- Continuously update your knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in surgical nursing practices
About you

Other skills and experience include:
- Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- At least 3 years’ recent Scrub/Scout experience
- Ability to work in an ever-changing and fast paced environment
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of different stakeholders both internally and externally at various levels
- Demonstrated ability to operate both in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning and strong listening, negotiation and decision making skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Commitment to ensuring the levels of service is always delivered to patients at all times
