We are seeking a professional and passionate Oncology Pharmacist to join our Clinical Services team in a permanent full-time basis, working across our Public and Private Oncology and Haematology Services.
We welcome pharmacists with previous oncology experience and other Pharmacists looking for a chance to build clinical pharmacy skills and experience. On-the-job training will be provided to support your transition into cancer care.
Mater Health Services, South East Queensland comprises a unique collection of two public and four private hospitals at South Brisbane, Springfield and Redland caring for over 500,000 patients each year. Salary range: $41.87 to $56.07 per hour (Health Practitioner Level 3) plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you'll be doing
You will work closely with hospital staff and patients to deliver a consistently high level of clinical pharmacy service to hospital in-patients, chemotherapy day patients and out-patients. This will include roles in the Mater Cancer Care Centre which provides chemotherapy treatment and care for outpatients, as well as providing a clinical pharmacy service to both public and private inpatient wards. The role will be primarily based at our South Brisbane campus but also supports and works in collaboration with the oncology service to Mater Springfield and Mater Redland.
In all settings, you will provide customers, patients, carers and other health professionals with support and information relating to medication and uphold medication safety practices. This includes but is not limited to:
- Screening and ordering chemotherapy from external and internal manufacturing facilities
- Checking prepared medications prior to delivery to clinical areas and patients
- Compiling and documenting best possible medication history for hospital inpatients
- Reconciliation and clinical review of prescribed medications
- Managing supply of inpatient and discharge medications for hospital patients and some outpatients
- Preparation of discharge medication and discharge medication information
- Medication education and counselling for patients and their carers
- Liaison with external facilities and community health care providers to ensure continuity of care for individual patients
- Providing medication related information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team.
This role also provides the unique opportunity to participate in provision of medications for use in a number of clinical trials as well as potential for training and work in our on-site cytotoxic and sterile manufacturing facility. The role will also involve some time in the central dispensary including a share of evening, public holiday and weekend shifts on a rostered basis. This is an ideal position for a pharmacist with some experience in haematology and oncology to develop their clinical skills by partnering with an exceptional, multidisciplinary team caring for patients with a wide variety of malignant conditions.

About you
To be considered for this role you must have:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy
- AHPRA registration to practice as a Pharmacist (without restrictions)
- Previous experience within a clinical / hospital oncology/haematology pharmacy setting
- Prior experience with CHARM oncology software will be highly regarded
- Prior demonstrated experience in ward-based clinical pharmacy will be highly regarded
- The flexibility to work all shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
- The ability to work at Mater Hospital locations including South Brisbane, Redland and Springfield will be highly regarded
