Mater Private Hospital Mackay has an exciting opportunity for a Public Patient Coordinator to join the Finance & Operations team in a permanent, full-time position.

Salary range: $53.24 - $57.92 per hour (MCAS5) plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As a Public Patient Coordinator, you will manage Surgery Connect and MHHS patient referrals, ensuring contractual obligations are met and cases are scheduled within guidelines. In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Leadership team and collaborate with both clinical and non-clinical managers to improve efficiency, enhance patient care, and maintain data integrity. Join our Finance and Operations team and help drive continuous improvements in a dynamic healthcare setting.
- Apply lateral thinking to solve problems and identify alternatives, following relevant procedures and guidelines.
- Understand financial costs related to surgical procedures, including VMO invoice processing and month-end accruals.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks.
- Maintain expert knowledge of MML and Queensland Health contracts, including the Surgery Connect and MHHS Agreements.
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of reporting to Queensland Health in a timely manner.
- Manage and allocate referrals to appropriate medical officers, ensuring confidentiality and timeliness.
- Lead the development of internal management reporting on public patient contracts.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, addressing queries, concerns, and complaints professionally.
- Monitor key performance indicators and ensure adherence to reporting, invoicing, and correspondence timelines.
- Liaise with external stakeholders to secure procedure approvals and funding.
- Participate in meetings to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and key performance indicators.
- Support resource planning during periods of absence or succession.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure correct billing and coding.
- Manage invoicing and follow-up on public patient payments.
- Collaborate with external Practice Managers to streamline patient care processes.
- Foster clear communication and positive relationships with stakeholders regarding public patient programs.
About you
Desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business Administration (Medical), or similar
Experience:
- Proven experience working in a medical or hospital administration environment, with the ability to interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately;
- Experience in supporting the financial function of a hospital or similar environment
Skills & knowledge:
- Excellent written and verbal communication, literacy, numeracy and reporting skills;
- Ability to manage complaints and sensitive matters in a confidential/professional manner;
- Demonstrated understanding of private health funding and patient accounts management;
- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing priorities, work effectively in a busy and demanding environment, and meet established deadlines; and
- Digital technology and Microsoft proficiency
