About the role
Mater Pathology has an exciting opportunity for a Supervising Scientist to join the Stat Laboratory. This is a permanent full-time role working 38 hours a week, where you may be required to work across all shifts including evenings and over nights. This role is currently primarily based at the Stat Lab in Chermside.
In this role you will hold governance over the small Stat Lab currently at Springfield, where you will be required at time to travel to Springfield occasionally. With the current Springfield Hospital expansion and you will play a pivotal role in the recruitment and development of this small team into a medium sized stat Lab.
The role of Supervising Scientist is to deliver a high-quality and cost-effective diagnostic service on behalf of Mater Pathology for our Stat Laboratories. You will utilize contemporary technology and best practice standards for clinicians and their patients. Additionally, you will provide strategic direction for the implementation of small multidisciplinary stat laboratories as operationally required. Building and maintaining effective professional relationships with key clinical groups and customers is also a key responsibility.
Salary range: $73.12 - $76.30 per hour plus superannuation access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Support evidence-based identification and prioritization of improvements to deliver contemporary, cost-effective, consistent, accurate, and timely clinical care and patient outcomes.
- Manage customer expectations through clinician interactions as required
- You will be responsible for supervising and training the staff, as required, and managing the daily workflow of the rostered team within Mater stat laboratories.
- Partner with referrers, patients, and interprofessional colleagues to determine service and operational objectives that provide an exceptional experience and outcomes.
- Maintain and strengthen strategic relationships with community, universities, professional bodies, commercial entities, and government and non-government agencies to inform and enhance services.
- Analyze business data to inform strategic decisions, respond to issues and trends, and maintain and report on metrics aligned with Mater's strategic and operational plans.
- Provide quality and safety leadership in the reduction of clinical risk and promotion of workplace health and safety.
- Supervise internal quality assurance activities and oversee completion of Quality Assurance Programs and External Quality Assurance for all disciplines.
- Manage roster management based on reporting staff skill sets and workload analysis.
- Manage key relationships across peers and clients, collaborating with other clinical and non-clinical support services.
About you
- Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent qualification.
- Post-graduate qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science or Management are highly desirable.
- Memberships and/or Fellowships of applicable professional bodies.
- To excel in this role, you must possess a high level of scientific knowledge and extensive operational experience.
- Leadership skills will be crucial in overseeing the implementation and performance of multidisciplinary testing, including point-of-care technologies.
- Experience in either a supervisor or team lead role
