About the role
Join our Group Finance team as the Senior Project Accountant in a full-time maximum term 12-month contract, based at our Newstead office. Contribute your expertise in managing projects and financial assets within a dynamic and rewarding environment.
As the Senior Project Accountant, you will report to the Financial Accounting Supervisor - Capital and Projects, responsible for preparation and set-up for a major project at Mater and resolve arrear asset capitalisations. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, aligning with Australian Accounting Standards, internal controls, and audit requirements.
Mater’s proposed Stage 2 expansion of the Springfield hospital will meet the current and future health needs of the rapidly growing Western Corridor. The expansion will deliver 174 public overnight and same-day beds, an Intensive Care Unit and a much-needed Emergency Department. Construction is expected to be completed late 2025 with this project role to be a key part in the asset’s recognition for this development.
Salary range: $121,359 - $129,997 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will play a key role in the ERP remediation change journey and support process uplifts within the team, operating with autonomy and delivering high-quality outcomes aligned with Mater's overall goals and strategy. These accountabilities and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure accurate and timely accounting of asset transactions in compliance with standards
- Maintain asset sub-ledger for complete identification, location, and value records
- Manage project sub-ledger, supporting project managers and accounting staff
- Maintain financial fixed asset register for newly acquired assets
- Maintain disposals, transfers, and adjustments for accurate gains, losses, and changes
- Perform monthly reconciliation analysis of fixed asset balance sheet and P&L accounts
- Assess and review new business cases, providing accounting advice
- Maintain fixed asset schedules, prepare for audits, and collaborate with Operations Maintenance team
- Contribute to ERP-related project work
- Analyse, evaluate, and resolve problems through stakeholder engagement
About you
The successful candidate will have a relevant qualification in Economics, Business, Accounting, or Commerce, or equivalent experience and must hold a Professional Accounting Qualification (CA/CPA) in addition to the following:
- 5+ years of experience in financial asset management or strong financial accounting experience with exposure to asset and capital accounting
- Experience in the health sector or complex industries is highly regarded
- In-depth knowledge and application of asset accounting standards
- Experience in preparing capital expenditure reports, forecasts and financial impacts
- Proficiency in project work and implementing outcomes into business processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with various stakeholders
- Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational abilities with a proven track record of meeting deadlines, anticipating problems and finding solutions
- Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial audiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with experience leveraging Microsoft Dynamics 365
