Salary range: $36.10 to $40.43 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The Senior Research Assistant will contribute toward the research effort of the Immunopathology across several funded projects focused on the group’s interests. The researcher will need to be able to work both independently and collaboratively toward delivering research outputs using experimental approaches spanning preclinical models, cell-based assays, immunology techniques and molecular biology.
- Actively collaborate with support from other team members to successfully complete hypothesis driven experimentation to the highest quality and ethical standards
- Complete defined research experiments from planning through to data analysis and generation of publication quality data in a timely manner. This includes time keeping of exemplary records of the experimental methodology used and appropriate data storage.
- Share in responsibility for general lab management, ordering, compliance, and safe work practice.
- Maintain laboratory logs and databases.
- Participate in professional activities including attendance at laboratory meetings, Institute meetings and relevant seminars.
- Contribute to the preparation of scholarly papers, contract research reports and grant applications, particularly with respect to preparation of methodology sections.
- Remain up to date with the relevant literature and technical aspects of experimental approaches to support completion of duties and ongoing professional development.
- Undertake other research duties consistent with the level of appointment as required by Group Leader.
- Work collaboratively and diligently with a commitment to high quality research towards achieving research impacts that extend knowledge in relation human health.
About you
A bachelor’s degree in science or a related discipline, or workplace experience as a junior research assistant for at least 3 years. Experience in the execution of experiments and experimental techniques including:
- This is a project which will entail a significant amount of animal work. Therefore, work with small animal handling, welfare monitoring, preclinical imaging and/or dissection is essential.
- molecular and cellular biology
- appropriate record keeping for a scientific work environment.
- tissue processing, sectioning, histology, and immunohistochemistry staining.
- multi-parameter flow cytometry
- molecular biology techniques
- Demonstrated understanding of cell biology, physiology, and pathophysiology, with knowledge and experience in immunology viewed favourable. An ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and technical expertise related to the research specialty.
- High level written and verbal communication skills, including experience in writing scientific documents.
- Appropriate digital literacy skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, statistical analysis software, Endnote referencing tool, and NCBI Resources including PubMed.
