About the role

Maters Ambulatory & Outpatients Services are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with relevant knowledge and skills to fulfil the position of Clinical Nurse Consultant - Inflammatory Bowel Disease in a full-time maximum-term leave coverage role from 12 May 2025 – 7 July 2025.

The IBD service is a multidisciplinary service that manages the care of patients with IBD (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis). The service provides inpatient and outpatient care, with five dedicated IBD clinics a week, a weekly IBD MDT meeting, a fortnightly IBD medical and colorectal MDT with Histology and Radiology, as well as specialist dietetic and psychology services. The IBD service is based at the Mater Hospital Brisbane but serves patients from across Queensland via the Helpline and Telehealth. We operate a rapid access service and self-management support for our patients, their carer’s and their General Practitioners and pride ourselves on our responsiveness to patients requiring emergent advice and treatment.

Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The successful candidate will be responsible for and demonstrate the following:

  • Act as a clinical and education resource within the IBD team to both staff and patients using your knowledge, skills and experience to inform evidence-based workplace practices
  • Act as a patient advocate ensuring patients are informed about their care, particularly in scenarios where there may be barriers to patient understanding
  • Ensuring patient regimens for complex medications and Biologics are maintained
  • Managing patient enquiries by prioritising, responding and escalating appropriately
  • Liaison with the Multidisciplinary Team/s between various specialties and sub-specialties to ensure consistent patient outcomes
  • Active participation in MDT meeting
  • Liaison with other internal and external stakeholders/ health professionals in order to provide safe, collaborative high quality patient care
  • Establishing priorities of identified health needs in consultation with the patient and family
  • The ability to adapt practice according to the specific and changing needs of the individual, their health needs and preferences across the continuum of care
  • Experience and/or formal qualifications within IBD/Gastro specialties will be highly regarded

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
  • Minimum of three years full time equivalent clinical experience in area of speciality
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to optimise individual health outcomes
  • Demonstrated high level of communication (written and verbal) and the ability to communicate with your team as an effective senior leader
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
