Mater Pathology are you looking for an experienced Finance and Operations Manager to join the team. Reporting to the General Manager – Mater Pathology, this permanent, full-time role is based at our South Brisbane campus.

The Finance and Operations Manager, as part of the Mater Pathology Leadership team, is responsible for planning, reporting and analysis on the use of financial resources, monitoring of Pathology budget and key performance indicators. This role is also responsible for operational functions of the pathology business, including, but not necessarily limited to, customer services, courier fleet, collection centres, billing and business development.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing

Driving high-impact financial performance reporting and analysis to support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and resource management across Mater Pathology.

  • Leading systems and teams to enhance pathology services, embed performance standards, support specialist recruitment, and foster continuous improvement through strong stakeholder engagement.
  • Mentoring and developing high-performing teams with a focus on succession planning, capability growth, and a values-driven, safe workplace.
  • Overseeing financial reporting, cost control, compliance, and efficiency initiatives to enable informed decisions and build financial accountability.
  • Optimising resources through smart budget, asset, procurement, and contract management to boost operational efficiency.
  • Delivering operational plans aligned with KPIs, accreditation, and business objectives.
  • Embedding a culture of performance, accountability, safety, and continuous professional grow 

About you

You will hold relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in accountancy, economics, commerce, finance, or a related discipline, underpinned by a strong professional foundation.

In addition, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Professional standing through current membership or eligibility for membership with a recognised Australian accounting body.
  • Postgraduate qualifications such as an MBA will be highly regarded.
  • A proven track record of senior-level experience in budget and financial management, including the design and implementation of financial policies, systems, controls, and reporting frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of the pathology sector, including its business operations, funding mechanisms, and key value drivers.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and assessing complex business cases, negotiating pricing and funding models, and providing high-level strategic advice in relation to budgeting, pricing, and economic analysis at an executive level.
  • A strategic and influential people leader, capable of engaging cross-functional teams and operational leaders through clear communication, collaboration, and a focus on continuous improvement.
