Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is seeking applications for an Assistant Director of Clinical Services, Inpatients (General Med/Surgical Wards, Orthopaedics, Neurosciences, Haematology/Oncology, Paediatrics, Rehabilitation, cardiac services) to join our team. This permanent, full-time role is based at our South Brisbane campus.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services (DCS) MPHB, the Assistant Director of Clinical Services (ADCS) MPHB, will be an integral member of the leadership team and will be responsible for delivering the strategic and operational accountabilities for the service, ensuring that safe, high quality patient centred care is delivered, and a culture is promoted that is in keeping with the health care mission and values of the Sister of Mercy. 

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

You will lead and manage inpatient services, driving clinical, operational, and strategic performance.

  • Oversee teams with a focus on HR, financial performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Hold full budget accountability and implement cost-effective strategies to meet targets.
  • Advise on financial optimisation, including staffing, agency use, and productivity measures.
  • Set clear expectations for direct reports and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Champion Mater’s values, ensuring accountability, performance, and cultural alignment.
  • Engage in organisational leadership, quality initiatives, and accreditation processes.
  • Role model professional standards, compliance, safety, and continuous development.

About you

You will have relevant registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and at least 5 years post-basic or post-graduate nursing experience & minimum 1 years’ experience as Nurse Unit Manager or Higher. You will also meet the below criteria:

  • Proven previous experience managing a large, complex health provision organisation
  • Previous experience in a senior hospital/health services leadership role in a complex, geographically diverse, commercial environment.
  • Ability to promote the Vision, Mission and Values of Mater.
  • Demonstrated ability to combine technical, financial and commercial acumen in the delivery of advice and business solutions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of private health systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret and lead action against financial and operational information
  • Proven knowledge of contemporary models of care
  • High level facilitation and influencing skills along with strong decision-making skills and the ability to set priorities, manage, and implement them.
  • Significant, proven experience of developing, establishing and maintaining robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to create and develop collaborative work environments where trust, integrity and open communication are valued.
  • Business risk management and strategy skills.
  • Desirable
  • Previous experience in the private and/or not for profit healthcare sector.
  • Tertiary qualifications in health management, business or related discipline.
