About the role
Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield (MCCCS) is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced Clinical Nurse to join the team on a permanent part-time basis at 24 hours per week. This role will be based at Mater Private Hospital Springfield.
We aim to offer all patients, regardless of their level of health insurance cover, access to a modern state-of-the-art facility that provides comprehensive and compassionate care that is individually personalised. The centre includes consultation rooms, 15 cancer care treatment pods, palliative care, support programs and a specialised pharmacy. The layout of the centre will enable a holistic approach to cancer care all from the one convenient location.
Salary range: $54.44 - $58.30 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The Clinical Nurse (CN) performs all aspects of Nursing care with particular consideration to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each patient/client in a safe, effective and patient focussed manner. This clinical leadership role provides and supports the delivery of high-quality patient care, where advanced clinical skills and knowledge underpin care coordination, collaboration and communication within the Nursing/Midwifery and interdisciplinary team, for excellence in patient outcomes. The CN provides operational leadership when delegated by the NUM/MUM.
Whilst maintaining the highest level of clinical standards for the unit you will be responsible for:
- Achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout their disease trajectory
- Demonstrating clinical expertise and knowledge of cancer treatment and central venous line management
- Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager in the coordination and delivery of safe and effective patient care
- Managing daily workloads and supporting the team with clinical escalation
- Overseeing treatment floor operations to ensure efficient patient flow and safe care delivery
- Identifying patients of concern and escalating appropriately in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
- Redistributing patient allocations to ensure workload balance and an effective skill mix
- Undertaking staffing allocation and reviewing staffing levels throughout the day to respond to changes in acuity or demand
- Supporting staff with clinical education and ongoing upskilling
- Implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision
- Maintaining current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
About you
- Minimum of five years’ experience in Cancer Nursing
- Demonstrates clinical expertise, knowledge and skills in Cancer Nursing
- Chemotherapy competent (ADAC competent or equivalent)
- Cannulation and venepuncture competent
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Ability to problem solve and work autonomously
- High-level interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills with the ability to engage with internal stakeholders at various levels
- Demonstrates ability to provide leadership, education support and mentoring
- Postgraduate qualification in cancer nursing (Desirable)
