About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is looking for multiple Orderlies to join the dedicated team at our South Brisbane Campus on a casual basis.

These casual positions are valued and integral members of the Ward Services Department. You will be responsible for a wide range of portage and patient care services to clinical and non-clinical areas across 3 hospitals within South Brisbane based on Mater’s customer focused philosophy. 

Salary range: $31.24 - $33.68 per hour plus 12% superannuation and casual loading and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

• Provide assistance with the transport and safe transfer of patients between departments, and to/from other local hospitals in beds or wheelchairs and by hospital ambulance in accordance with relevant policies and procedures
• Help nursing staff to provide a high quality of care whilst assisting with turning, lifting, mobilising, and hygiene needs of patients
• Ensure patient care is managed without harm to either patient or the handlers by utilising correct patient handling techniques and appropriate aids
• Handling soiled linen, general or biomedical waste using correct PPE
• Couriering equipment between units, departments, and hospitals
• Safe handling and restocking of medical gas cylinders

About you

• Genuine interest in working with and caring for people and a drive to deliver excellent customer service (mandatory)
• Current drivers’ licence (mandatory)
• Able to work rotational shifts e.g. (day, evening and night), 7 - day roster including weekends and public holidays may apply (mandatory)
• A strong commitment to working effectively as part of a team and autonomously with the capability to problem solve and troubleshoot
• Flexible, reliable and the ability to prioritise while working under pressure
• Fitness level to suit physically demanding role in fast paced environment
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to retain information
• Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions and procedures
• Certificate III in Health Support Services (desirable)
