About the role

Mater at Home currently has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated Speech Pathologist to join our dynamic and supportive team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This role is based at our South Brisbane campus, with travel in the community to provide services directly to clients in their homes.

You will report operationally to the Mater at Home Speech Pathology and Dietetics Team Leader and clinically to the Mater Hospital Clinical Lead for Speech Pathology, with indirect reporting to the Director of Mater at Home.

Salary range: $39.86 - $58.59 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As a Speech Pathologist with Mater at Home, you will provide high-quality, contemporary clinical services to adults with congenital, developmental, and acquired disorders of swallowing and communication.
We welcome applications from Speech Pathologists with experience in:

  • Managing dysphagia and communication impairments in adults
  • Working with NDIS participants
  • Supporting clients with complex communication needs

This role is part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering community-based services across a variety of funding models, including the NDIS, Home Care Packages, Commonwealth Home Support Program, Post Acute Care, and private referrals.

The role includes:

  • Skilled assessment and management of complex swallowing and communication impairments
  • Supporting clients in the use of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) devices
  • Working collaboratively with clients, families, support coordinators, and other health professionals to ensure an integrated approach along the continuum of care
  • Deliver individualised speech pathology assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for clients with developmental and/or acquired communication and swallowing disorders
  • Provide clinical services to clients referred from hospitals, GPs, specialists, support coordinators, and other referral sources
  • Undertake examination, diagnosis, treatment (individual or group), and case management within well-established clinical protocols
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and quality improvement activities
  • Delegate and supervise Allied Health Assistants, supporting their skill development
  • Maintain accurate clinical and non-clinical documentation
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and maintain best practice

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology
  • Membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) and eligibility for a Medicare provider number
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check), Disability Worker Screening Card and National Police Check
  • Current open QLD Driver’s Licence
  • Minimum two years of speech pathology experience, including work with NDIS participants with complex developmental and/or acquired communication disorders
  • Competent to complex level of knowledge and skill in adult speech pathology practice, particularly in a community setting
  • Experience with AAC assessment and intervention (highly regarded)
  • Previous experience in communication intervention with complex adults and children, including those with a disability (highly regarded)
