About the role

Mater Mothers Hospital is currently seeking an experienced Psychologist to join the Growth and Development Unit on a permanent part-time basis (8 hours per week, Mondays).

The Mater Neonatal Growth and Development Unit integrates service, quality improvement and benchmarking and research in neurodevelopmental follow-up of high-risk infants into early childhood.

Salary range: $39.86 - $58.59 per hour plus plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

A higher salary level may apply if the successful candidate has specialty endorsement in Educational and Developmental Psychology and extensive experience administering psychometric assessments to young children.

What you’ll be doing

The purpose of the role is to conduct quality psychological assessments and provision of brief assessment reports within Mater Neonatal Growth and Development Unit.

The key responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Administering standardised psychometric assessments at an advanced skill level to young children at high risk of developmental delay (particularly those born very preterm), including: 
    - Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development 4th edition, A&NZ version – Bayley-4A&NZ
    - Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence Fourth Edition A&NZ Standardised Edition – WPPSI-IVA&NZ
    - Griffiths Mental Development Scales 3rd edition (not essential)

  • Actively participate within the multidisciplinary teams, working cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, patients, and their families, showing consideration, concern and respect for others
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with the Clinical Director of the Growth & Development Unit in understanding and responding to stakeholder needs
  • Identifying goals to build and enhance both the service and research/academic objectives of the Growth & Development Unit

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • General psychology registration with AHPRA
  • Endorsement in Educational and Developmental Psychology or Clinical Psychology with AHPRA is desirable
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise in administration and interpretation of psychometric assessments of high-risk infants and young children
    - Specific experience in assessments on the preterm population an advantage
  • Excellent time-management skills to deliver high-volume assessments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to participate effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in and capacity to participate in clinical research
