About the role

Mater Mothers’ Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Lactation Consultant. This is a permanent part-time position, working 24 hours per week.

The Lactation Consultant is a Clinical Midwife and/or Clinical Nurse who has undertaken specific training to become a credentialed lactation consultant through IBCLE. The role involves educating new mothers and their families, regarding best practices in supporting the establishment of breastfeeding. Lactation Consultants also collaborate with other health professionals when the breastfeeding mother is facing challenges establishing breastfeeding, continuing to breastfeed or ceasing their breastfeeding journey, if need be.

As an integral member of the team, you will be a part of providing a collaborative service across Mater Health Services, including the provision of individual and group breastfeeding support and education for staff and families, with a special focus for those accessing our well-baby service.

Salary range: $54.44 - $58.30 (RN2) per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you'll be doing

As an integral member of the team you will be a part of providing a collaborative service across Mater Health Services, including the provision of individual and group breastfeeding support and education for staff and families, with a special focus for those accessing our well-baby service. 

About you

To be successful in your application for this position it is essential that you have: 

  • Current Midwifery registration and IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) qualification
  • Your experience in the area of full-term babies and breastfeeding support is desirable
  • As well as a demonstrated interest in the area of neonatology and preterm infants
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Experience and interest providing education whilst in the role of Lactation Consultant 

You will be working in a fast-paced environment that requires someone who is enthusiastic, able to show initiative and work well in a team. The ideal candidate for the position will be approachable with a mature and confident attitude.
