About the role

Mater’s Finance ministry is going through an exciting change period and has an opportunity for a Finance Business Partner to join the team. Reporting to Finance and Operations Manager – Mater Private Hospital Brisbane (MPHB), this role will see you supporting the MPHB portfolio. It is a permanent full-time position based at our South Brisbane campus.

This opportunity is for those looking to leverage their existing business partnering expertise, bringing knowledge and experience into a high functioning, multi skilled team and to join a market leader in healthcare.

As our new Finance Business Partner (FBP) you will serve as a strategic liaison between the finance function and operational leadership groups, providing expert financial support and guidance to enhance organisational performance and long-term financial sustainability.

Salary range: $124,394 - $133,248 (MCA 6) per annum plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Typical duties of the role includes:

  • Collaborate with divisional and cost centre management to provide financial expertise and guidance on performance reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and funding assessments
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders to identify financial management issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare accurate and insightful divisional performance reports on a monthly basis
  • Participate actively in performance review meetings with divisional and cost centre management
  • Support ledger integrity and month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing or reviewing journals, accruals and ledger reviews
  • Coordinate divisional budget cycle tasks
  • Prepare regular divisional full-year forecasts, identify potential differences compared to annual budget targets, and develop recommendations
  • Maintain oversight of divisional funding arrangements, including activity-based funding and service contract obligations
  • Ensure sustainable resource allocation planning at the divisional and cost centre levels, align with available funding sources and organisational priorities
  • Support the review of contractual agreements and grant proposals to assess financial implications, risks, and compliance requirements
  • Ensure that contracts and grant proposals align with organisational objectives, financial policies, and regulatory guidelines
  • Support facility/corporate/Ministry capital investment planning and reporting,
  • Identify and communicate potential financial risks, opportunities, and requirements associated with contracts and grants to relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with procurement, project managers, and program coordinators to negotiate favourable terms and conditions
  • Proactively identify system and process improvements to drive continuous improvement
  • Lead change management initiatives to successfully implement improvements, enhance efficiency, and optimise financial processes

About you

To be successful in this role you will have relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications including professional standing for current membership of a recognised Australian accounting body (CA/CPA), and have:

  • Effective coordination and leadership of management accounting services within a large private/public health organisation.
  • Development, leadership, and mentorship of high-performing teams in line with contemporary human resource management practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, consultation, and change management skills.
  • Provision of effective advice and recommendations on financial matters within a large health organisation.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical skills, and innovation in complex service planning and clinical activity management
  • Experience in business partnering in a large organisation
  • Proven ability to contribute to strategic decision making and identifying opportunities for improved financial outcomes
  • Demonstrated presentation and report writing skills
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with key stakeholders through understanding of their needs and objectives, whilst demonstrating/displaying the corporate values.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and commitments and the ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions
  • High level of proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience leveraging ERP (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365)
  • Proven ability to use reporting tools such as TM1 and PowerBI to draw insights and drive decisions
