About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurses to join Catherine’s House, our world-class perinatal and infant mental health service, in permanent part-time positions. This is a shift-working position, involving 12-hour shifts across a 7-day rotating roster.

Located within the Mater South Brisbane campus, this is an exciting opportunity to support mothers experiencing acute mental illness while caring for their infants in an innovative, recovery-focused environment. You will work across both our Mother Baby inpatient unit and outpatient private day program, contributing to a state-wide service that truly changes lives.

Salary range: $41.73 - $54.54 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will deliver safe, contemporary and recovery-focused mental health nursing care that supports mothers and their infants.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing evidence-based, individualised perinatal mental health nursing care to mothers and primary carers.
  • Supporting the development of parenting skills and fostering early mother-infant attachment.
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments, diagnostic formulation, treatment planning and intervention delivery.
  • Coordinating care, including referrals, discharge planning, and liaison with multidisciplinary clinicians.
  • Building therapeutic relationships and providing service users with a positive, respectful and responsive experience.
  • Contributing to a supportive team culture through collaboration, professionalism and mentorship of junior staff.
  • Participating in quality improvement, evaluation activities and service development initiatives.
  • Undertaking shift coordination duties as required and managing a portfolio aligned to your skill level.
  • Ensuring all practice aligns with legislation, clinical governance, Mater policies and the mission of the Sisters of Mercy.

About you

You are a warm, skilled and adaptable nurse with a passion for supporting mothers and infants through complex mental health journeys.

You will bring:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife.
  • Commitment to, or willingness to work towards, specialist mental health and/or perinatal and infant mental health qualifications.
  • Strong clinical skills in mental health assessment, treatment planning, intervention and recovery-oriented care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment and contribute thoughtfully to team discussions.
  • Capacity to model safe, developmentally informed parenting skills in interactions with mothers and families.
  • Understanding of de-escalation principles and the ability to apply them safely and appropriately.
  • Sound computer skills or the ability to quickly acquire them (e.g., CIMHA).
  • A commitment to professional development, reflective practice and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Recognition as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) or eligibility to apply after required experience/training.
  • Credentialing with the ACMHN or willingness to work towards this.
