About the role
Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Administration Officer – Ward Clerk to join our 9 East Surgical Ward in a full-time, permanent position. Working Monday to Friday in 8-hour shifts, you'll be an essential part of our Inpatient Administration Team, providing exceptional support that enhances operational efficiency and contributes to an outstanding patient and family experience. Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will provide high-quality administrative support to ensure efficient daily operations on Ward 9 East and an exceptional service experience for patients, staff and visitors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing ward reception services, patient admissions, discharges and transfers with accuracy and confidentiality.
- Delivering strong customer service and effective communication with patients, clinicians and visitors.
- Providing timely administrative support to the Nursing Unit Manager and clinical team in line with ward procedures.
- Performing data entry, health fund checks, payments, banking tasks and maintaining accurate records across hospital systems.
- Coordinating bookings, purchasing, inventory control, maintenance scheduling and meeting administration.
- Remaining calm and responsive during emergency situations and exercising sound judgement when problem-solving.
- Supporting compliance, safety reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives as directed by the Team Leader/Manager.
About you
You are an organised, confident and service-driven administrator who thrives in a busy clinical environment and takes pride in supporting exceptional patient care.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- High-level customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience providing efficient and accurate administrative support within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong ability to liaise effectively with staff at all levels, patients and visitors while maintaining discretion and professionalism.
- Accurate data entry capability and proficiency in Microsoft Office and hospital/departmental software systems.
- Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and adapt to competing demands.
- Capacity to work both independently and as a senior, supportive member of a high-performing team.
- Previous experience in healthcare administration (highly regarded).
