About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane has an opportunity available for an experienced Senior Administration Officer to join our Emergency Department. This role will be recruited on a permanent part time basis, 32 hours per week.

As a Senior Administration Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating administrative activities within the Emergency Department. You will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the department, providing support to medical staff, and delivering outstanding service to our patients.

Shifts are 8 hours in total and all staff are expected to be available across the 24/7 rotating roster. This is inclusive of mornings (as early as 5am), afternoons (from 1.30pm) and nights starting from 6pm) and also is inclusive of all public holidays and weekends.

Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will provide high-quality administrative support that ensures the Emergency Department operates smoothly and efficiently. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Providing exceptional customer service to patients and clients
  • Processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges, and preparing clinical forms
  • Providing administrative support to clinical staff
  • Maintaining a high level of discretion and confidentiality, complying with administration and financial policies and procedures, and keeping accurate, current and accessible files—including records of relevant meetings and discussions
  • Demonstrating highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to draft routine correspondence on behalf of senior management
  • Providing administrative assistance to other senior staff and others as requested
  • Exercising judgement to resolve immediate problems in situations where precedents are not yet established and procedures are undefined

About you

You will be a proactive, organised and customer-focused administrator who thrives in a busy, fast-paced clinical environment. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Extensive experience in medical administration support
  • Highly developed time management and organisational skills
  • Strong computer skills, including competence with Patient Administration systems (or the ability to quickly learn new systems)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to organise and prioritise work effectively within a demanding environment
