About the role
Mater Research is seeking a motivated Research Officer to join the Cognitive Health Genomics Group, based at the Translational Research Institute in South Brisbane. This full-time, two-year position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the genetics and genomics of common neuropsychiatric disorders. You will work alongside leading experts in a collaborative environment, applying advanced computational and statistical methods to large-scale genomic datasets with the goal of improving brain health.
Salary range: $45.57 to $48.92 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As a Research Officer you will design and execute research projects focused on the analysis of genome-wide association and multi-omics data related to brain disorders. You will develop and maintain analytic pipelines, prepare manuscripts for publication, and present findings at national and international conferences. Additionally, you will contribute to student supervision and actively seek research funding opportunities while upholding high standards of data governance and ethics compliance.
About you
To be considered for this position you should have:
- PhD in statistical genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related discipline
- Proven research productivity demonstrated through publications and conference presentations
- Expertise in contemporary genetic analysis methods, including GWAS summary statistics and single-cell data
- High-level programming skills in R, Python, and experience with high-performance computing environments
- Strong project management skills with attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills, including scientific writing and oral presentations
- Commitment to research integrity, collaboration, and continuous learning
