About the role
Mater’s Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Social Work Assistant to join the Parent Aide Unit, based at our South Brisbane campus. This is a permanent, part-time role (19 hours per week).
Catherine’s House is a world-class, integrated perinatal and infant mental health service providing inpatient and outpatient care to public and private consumers. The Parent Aide Unit is a community-based early intervention parenting program that supports families experiencing challenges during the transition to parenthood through trained peer volunteers.
In this role, you will support patient and consumer care under the direct and indirect supervision of a Social Worker by undertaking delegated support tasks. You will work closely with volunteer parent aides, families, clinical staff and community stakeholders, supporting the coordination of volunteer training, service delivery activities and family-focused care across Catherine’s House.

Salary range: $35.74 - $37.46 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will support the effective delivery of services across the Parent Aide Unit and Catherine’s House by:
- Contributing to positive experiences for families and volunteers through scheduling training, coordinating resources and providing information as required
- Supporting the planning and coordination of volunteer training, events and information sessions in collaboration with clinical staff
- Undertaking delegated administrative and clinical support tasks, including administering screening tools, forms and documentation as directed by clinical staff
- Assisting with joint home visits alongside clinical staff where appropriate
- Maintaining databases, resources and information relevant to the Parent Aide Unit and broader Catherine’s House services
- Collecting and reporting activity data in line with organisational and service requirements
- Liaising with external providers, community organisations and government and non-government services
- Supporting service functioning through delegated responsibilities such as OHS roles, Fire Warden and Hand Hygiene Champion duties (as required)
- Attending and participating in departmental meetings, professional development activities and mandatory education
About you
You will bring a strong commitment to patient- and family-centred care, along with:
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with volunteers, families, clinicians and community stakeholders
- High-level literacy and numeracy skills, with strong attention to detail
- High-level computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and database use
- A willingness to acquire specific competencies relevant to the Social Work Assistant role and to participate in ongoing training and development
- Initiative, enthusiasm and a solution-focused approach to supporting volunteers and families
- Reliability, professionalism and a willingness to learn
- The ability to reflect on practice and contribute to continuous quality improvement
- Experience working in a hospital, community health, volunteer service or with vulnerable populations
- Experience in community services, aged care, disability services, healthcare or a customer service environment
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, Allied Health Assistance, Health Administration, Community Services, Aged Care, Disability Services or similar
