About the role

Mater Research is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow – Data Scientist to join our dynamic Pregnancy and Development Group based at the Translational Research Institute, South Brisbane. This full-time, fixed-term 3-year position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of placental biology research, combining cutting-edge molecular biology with advanced bioinformatics to drive discoveries that impact maternal and fetal health.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

You will design, conduct, and analyse complex molecular biology experiments alongside high-throughput biological data, including genomics, transcriptomics, and single-cell sequencing. Your role will involve developing and applying bioinformatics pipelines to interpret data and generate novel insights into placental function and pathology. Additionally, you will contribute to laboratory management, mentor junior staff and students, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance impactful research projects.

About you

To be considered for this position you should have:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, or a related discipline
  • Proven expertise in molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning, PCR, cell culture) and bioinformatics analysis (e.g., R, Python, sequencing data analysis)
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data, including genomics, transcriptomics, or single-cell sequencing
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong organizational skills with experience in laboratory management and mentoring
