Mater Hospital Springfield and Mater Private Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for an Allied Health Assistant - Dietetics to join us either on either a permanent full-time or permanent, part-time capacity (1.0 FTE available). Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
Salary range: $34.87 – $36.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As part of a supportive and collaborative clinical team, you will provide assistance to Dietitians across Mater Hospital Springfield. This role may be required to support other Allied Health disciplines depending on demand. Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Assisting in the delivery of clinical nutrition and dietetic support tailored to patients with medical conditions, under the supervision of Dietitians
- Supporting the assessment and monitoring of patients’ nutritional status in medical units, including performing malnutrition screening and related clinical assessments
- Maintaining accurate and confidential clinical documentation related to patient nutrition care plans and interventions
- Assisting in the collection and interpretation of relevant clinical data from medical nutrition databases to support dietetic interventions
- Contributing actively to quality improvement initiatives and service development within the Dietetics department
- Preparing, handling, and ensuring safe storage and delivery of therapeutic feeds and formula milk according to hospital protocol
About you
To succeed in this Dietetic Assistant role, you will bring:
- Proven ability to work effectively in a clinical hospital environment, both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage empathetically with patients and healthcare professionals
- Flexibility to manage competing demands in a dynamic medical setting
- High level of literacy, numeracy, and proficiency with clinical information systems
- Experience working as a dietetic assistant or in a food service role within medical wards (preferred)
- Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Nutrition & Dietetic Assistance) or progressing towards this qualification (desirable), or currently studying or hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Nutrition (also desirable but not essential)
